Volcano Cross-Section

Your task for today, if you wish to accept it.... and you must! Is to label the cross section of the below volcano!

To do this, you may visit the links below and use the definitions to post a reply to why you think a certain one (a, b, c, d etc) is what you labeled.

Everyone must reply with a good reason as to WHY they labeled on part of the volcano cross-section the way they did! Due in 5 days from today's posting! Count on 5 days.

I will reply to your comments.
Good luck.

I accept the task Miss Bate! =]
From reading the definitions and terms in the links you gave us, and also looking at the other cross-sections I think this is what belongs where.

a)Crater
b)Conduit
c)Sill
d)Dirt
e)Magma Chamber
f)Ash, smoke and rock
g)lava
h)Tunnel
i)Mantle

I know that the magma chamber is what holds the magma inside the volcano before the explosion, and that the magma chamber is in the mantle from what we learnt about the Earth’s layers. The crater is like the opening in the top like the top of a glass.

Ofek,
You have had an excellent try at labelling all of the parts on the Volcano Cross-Section.

Before I give out the answers, I would love it if you could re-look over d) g) and h) and make sure these are the correct answers!

Don’t forget to use the links I have given you.

Miss Bate,

I have accepted this task and I had some the same as Ofek’s. I will post mine.

a)Crater
b)Conduit
c)Sill
d)Crust
e)Magma Chamber
f)Ash, smoke and rock
g)Vent
h)Dike
i)Mantle

Where Ofek had dirt and I had crust, I think it was because it looked like it could have been pointing to dirt and maybe not the crust layer. I also had vent and dike for g) and h). Vent is the opening hole where lava can come out the side of a volcano and the dike is like the tube thing the lava goes through to come out the vent.

Over and out.

Miss Bate,

I looked and read over and over alllll the links and it’s so interesting. It’s so easy to see how a volcano works when we cut it in half like this. I can’t wait until we can make out own!
These are my labels….

a)Crater
b)Conduit
c)Sill
d)Crust
e)Magma Chamber
f)Ash and rock
g)Vent
h)Dike
i)Isn’t it an upper and lower mantle?
